Weddings in another country are becoming more and more popular. Croatia is slowly becoming one of the favorite wedding destinations in Europe. The first associations are the magical Dubrovnik or the beautiful island of Hvar.
However, recently Istria has been named as a leading tourist region that is becoming a recognizable destination for weddings. The Pula Amphitheater plays a special role in this, which, in addition to hosting world music stars such as Dua Lipa and Robbie Williams, also attracts newlyweds from all over the world. Below are some of the reasons why you should consider having your wedding in Istria.
The diversity of this popular region is what captivates the most. Namely, the coastal part and the interior are equally beautiful. Romantic Rovinj and enchanting Poreč and on to the city with the most history, Pula. The interior is full of greenery, and beautiful small medieval towns like Motovun and Svetvinčent. Due to its natural beauty, Istria is nicknamed the Croatian Tuscany. Did we mention the best part – everything listed is within a 1 hour drive.
This region has a lot of tempting things to offer. Imagine that you are having lunch in Istria and you are looking for something local, you will get, for example, homemade pasta (pljukanci) with Istrian beef (boškarin). This specialty will come with the best olive oil in the world. If you heard correctly, Istrian olive oil has been recognized as the best of the best for years. You will also be served a glass of white wine, for example the local “malvasia” variety, which has crossed the borders of Croatia. Truffles will also be served in some of the variants, and some of the largest specimens can be found right in the north of this picturesque region.
You can eat all of the above in one of the local restaurants, popular taverns, or in a restaurant that is part of the Michelin story.
Wine tours and cooking classes in which you will enjoy local food also sound very tempting, and you can fine them here.
For a small region, you have to admit that the gastronomic story sounds fantastic.
This region is full of content. You can watch top tennis at the ATP tournament in Umag, or come to a concert by a world star in the Pula Arena, such as Due Lipa, Imagine Dragons, Simply Red or Robbie Williams.
If you are a fan of adventure, you can decide on a zip line or a visit to one of the huge aquaparks, such as Aquacolors and Istralandia.
You can also decide to go on a boat trip and visit, for example, Venice, or the beautiful Brijuna, the former residence of Yugoslavian President Tito.
Legacies of the great empires, Roman and Austro-Hungarian, are everywhere. The most famous monument is the Pula Arena, the best-preserved amphitheater in the whole world, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Almost every town on the coast has an old town center with numerous monuments and legacies from the Roman era.
The cultural part is also rich, through numerous galleries and events (concerts, festivals…) that fill the summer in Istria.
You will have no problem getting to Istria, considering the proximity of many airports (Pula, Venezia, Ljubljana, Zagreb…). The same applies to the car, given that the traffic connection with the European Union, as well as within the region itself, is very good. The distance from the north to the south of Istria is only 100 km, and most of the tourist centers are connected by a local highway.
